Description

Trek the Depths of the Trekking to Colca Canyon: A 2-Day Adventure

For travelers with a spirit of adventure and a good level of physical fitness, our 2-day, 1-night trek is the ultimate way to experience the raw, majestic beauty of the Colca Canyon. This tour is a true immersion into the heart of one of the world’s deepest canyons, offering an unforgettable physical challenge and some of Peru’s most stunning landscapes.

Trekking Difficulty: Challenging

This is a demanding but incredibly rewarding trek. It is not a casual hike. The itinerary involves a steep, long descent on Day 1 and a difficult, steep ascent on Day 2. We highly recommend this tour for those who are physically active and have already acclimated to the altitude in Arequipa.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arequipa – Chivay – Cruz Del Condor – Cabanaconde – San Juan – Oasis San Galle.

For the Colca Trek, pick-up will be between 3:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Our first stop will be the town of Chivay, located at 3,635 meters above sea level, arriving at approximately 6:00 a.m. where we will have our first breakfast.

Then we will continue our journey to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where, in 45 minutes to an hour, we will observe the fabulous flight of the condors and the depth and geography of the Colca Canyon.

Next, we will depart for the town of Cabanaconde, located at 3,287 meters above sea level, where we will begin our descent into the canyon.

The Pampa San Miguel viewpoint gives us a view of our route.

Our descent will take approximately 3 hours to the Colca River, where we will cross a suspension bridge and ascend to the lodge in San Juan de Chuccho. The guide will give instructions for lunch.

After lunch, we will begin our ascent to the village of Cosñirhua, where we will take a short break and wait before visiting the village of Malata. We will observe the daily routine of the local people, then begin our descent to the Oasis, the strip of land surrounded by the Colca River. At approximately 5:00 p.m., we will arrive at the country house. We will have free time to relax in the pool.

Day 2: Sangalle Oasis – Cabanaconde – Antahuilque – Hot Springs – Chivay – Puno.

Very early in the morning, at the appointed time, we will begin the ascent to Cabanaconde, where we will watch the magnificent sunrise and recharge our batteries. The hike up will take three hours and is a rewarding experience.

After the trek to Colca Canyon, we will have breakfast and board our bus. We will make stops at the Antahuilque Viewpoint to observe Inca engineering, followed by the Yanque Hot Springs to relax in the pools.
Later, we will have time to sample different flavors at the buffet lunch in the town of Chivay.

After lunch, we will board the bus to Puno. On the way, we will see volcanoes at the Patapampa viewpoint at 4,910 meters above sea level. Next, we will see camelids such as alpacas, rock formations, and pariwanas or Andean flamingos. Finally, we will arrive in the city of Puno at approximately 7:00 p.m.
