Description

Uncover the secrets of the Nazca civilization from a different perspective. While flying over the lines provides an unforgettable aerial view, our ground tour allows you to get up close to these fascinating wonders and explore the brilliant minds behind them. This journey takes you beyond the geoglyphs, revealing the incredible history and engineering of a culture that thrived in the heart of the desert.

Highlights of Your Nazca Journey:

Nazca Lines Viewpoints: See the world-famous geoglyphs in a unique way from the ground. We’ll visit the official viewing tower along the Pan-American Highway, offering a clear and elevated perspective of several figures, including “The Hand” and “The Tree.” Our guide will also take you to a nearby natural viewpoint for a more intimate look at some of the long, straight lines that stretch across the pampas.
Museo Maria Reiche: Step into the former home and research center of Maria Reiche, the “Lady of the Nazca Lines.”
Cantalloc Aqueducts: Witness a true marvel of ancient engineering. These underground aqueducts, built by the Nazca people over 1,500 years ago, are a testament to their ingenuity in a parched desert environment.

Itinerary

We will begin our Journeys Nazca Lines Viewpoints with pickup from your hotel in Nazca in our private vehicle.
We will depart from Nazca and head along the Pan-American Highway to the Nazca and Palpa Lines Viewpoints. En route, we will stop at the Natural Viewpoint on a small hill. From this 20-meter-high hill, more than 52 straight lines converge and disappear into the horizon, perhaps sacred paths from the Nazca era.

Very close to this point is the Metallic Lookout. The tower is approximately 12 meters high, and very clear figures can be seen (the Tree and the Hand). You can also see the figure of the Lizard, which was cut in two for the construction of the road.

Then we will visit the María Reiche House Museum.
The museum is located in the town of San José, in the district of El Ingenio. Maria Reiche was the one who protected and spread the history of the Nazca Lines worldwide. She is considered “The Lady of the Nazca Plains.” A large number of black and white photographs give us an insight into her research work.

Maria Reiche’s tools and utensils are on display throughout the museum.
There are also valuable studies and explanations about the Nazca Lines. One of the most striking pieces in the small museum is a tattooed mummy.

Next, we will visit the Palpa metallic viewpoint to appreciate a group of figures representing humans, animals, and plants known as The Royal Family. One of the natural ways in which they have been preserved to this day in both cases is due to the lack of rain and the compact relief filled with dark reddish stones, sometimes purple-black, that keep the ancestral traces well preserved.

We will continue our tour to the Cantalloc Aqueducts. On the way, before reaching the aqueducts, we will stop at a place called Las Agujas, where you can see an enormous Nazca line and trapezoids from the top of a small hill.

Next, we will head to the Cantalloc Aqueducts.
Here, we will walk along the canals and holes through enormous spirals. Our guide will explain how the ancient Nazca people were able to manage, build, and channel the aquifers that exist throughout the Nazca Valley into irrigation canals or aqueducts. We will then take a walk along the aqueduct, and as we leave, you will also be able to see some fields of crops grown with water from the Cantalloc Aqueduct in the Nazca Valley.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Nazca.
