Prepare for a journey deep into the Peruvian Amazon, a vibrant world of unparalleled biodiversity. 3 Days / 2 Nights Tambopata Macaw Clay Licks National Reserve is a nature lover’s dream, culminating in a breathtaking encounter with one of the most incredible wildlife spectacles on Earth: the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.
DAY 1 We will start our Jungle Macaw Clay Lick tour with the pick-up at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the Tambopata Treasury office for check-in.
If you have large suitcases, we suggest repacking and bringing only the essentials.
Land transportation (4×4) to our destination for approximately 2 hours until reaching the banks of the Tambopata River.
From here, we will take a boat to the Hacienda Tambopata Lodge.
In the afternoon, we will take an introductory walk through the rainforest where we will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat, such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and wonderful insects, among others.
DAY 2 We wake up very early, at 4:30, to depart for the largest macaw clay lick in the world,
The CHUNCHO LICK. A boat trip of approximately 1:30 hours will take us. Along the way, we will have the incredible opportunity to see species such as ronsocos, the largest rodents in the world,
sachavacas, and you may even see the most beautiful South American feline, the jaguar. Many of our guests provide photographic evidence of encounters with these beautiful mammals.
Once we arrive at the clay lick, we will have the opportunity to see the largest macaw lick in the world,
the CHUNCHO LICK. Macaws: We’ll see hundreds of parrots of different species that come to eat clay from the wall adjacent to the river.
The parrots are followed by the three most colorful macaw species in the Americas: the red and green macaws, plus the blue and yellow macaws. They come together to eat clay, which is essential for their daily diet and eliminate toxins.
On a good day of activity, you can see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying above you—an experience of a lifetime.
We’ll then return to our lodge for breakfast and rest.
We’ll then take a walk through our botanical garden, where we can appreciate some of the fruit, wood, and medicinal species of our area, accompanied by our guide.
In the afternoon, we’ll have the opportunity to kayak on the Tambopata River, where we’ll move silently along the river. This way, we’ll have a better chance of observing the larger animals. of the
Tambopata Reserve
Free evening to rest or enjoy another night hike.
DAY 3 After a hearty breakfast, we’ll board our boat and return to Puerto Maldonado.
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be transferred to the bus terminal or airport.
